I was born in England and attended school until I was 14 - the school leaving age at the time. I enjoyed the art classes at school and received high marks. I came down with a severe illness in 1939 and consequently was turned down for military service when called up in 1940. I did serve in the Home Guard, however. In 1947 I came to Canada and have been here ever since except for two brief visits back.
Sketching has been my hobby over the years and watercolour my medium. Some of my pictures I gave away; some were thrown away and some were saved. It wasn't until I moved in with my son and his wife that anyone paid much attention to my watercolours. My daughter-in-law saw some of those I had saved and persueded me to contact the Art Gallery in Hope.
