J’nia Fowler is a retired nurse, preschool teacher and social worker with a husband, four children and 12 grand children. When she is not busy crocheting or sewing for the family, she is busy at various artistic endeavours.
J’nia began painting and drawing and creating art from found objects at an early age. In her twenties she often drew portraits of her family members as well as her friends, neighbours and their children and pets.
After moving to beautiful B.C. in 1980 and while raising her children she took courses in portraiture for several years and later branched out to explore the field of painting large murals.
At this stage of her artistic life she is painting large canvasses in acrylic and mixed media. J’nia is also still painting murals when requested.
Her Mohawk name [ O’tara ] means clay, a substance which is malleable and which yields easily to the design of its creator. The perfect metaphor for her life.
